By Christopher Coombs

The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated NCAA Division III member Berea (KY) in their home opener at Biggers Sports Center on Wednesday night by a final score of 70-38.

Lindsey Wilson (2-1) went 27-of-67 from the floor, connecting on 40.3 percent of their shots in the game. The Blue Raiders got into the high percentage areas as they were able to outscore Berea (0-1) 44-14 in the paint and outrebounded the Mountaineers 48-41.

Reagan Turner scored a game-high 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor, adding three assists and three steals in the process. J'Nayah Hall was the only other Blue Raider with double-digit points as she managed 10 buckets. Gerda Paulauskaite tallied a game-high eight rebounds as she added three blocked shots.

Lindsey Wilson jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead in the game after the first five minutes of action. Lindsey Wilson's Turner scored the game's first points just two seconds into the game when Paulauskaite played the opening tip towards the Berea basket, for an easy Turner layup as LWC forced Berea into three turnovers to open the game. Lindsey Wilson would outscore Berea 7-4 over the final five minutes to increase their lead to 17-8 as Turner led the charge with nine points.

The Blue Raiders were able to carry their momentum into the second quarter as they were able to outscore the Mountaineers 19-9, increasing their lead to 36-17 at the break.

Lindsey Wilson shot 43 percent in the half while limiting BC to just 18 percent shooting from the field. LWC made their presence known in the paint as the Blue Raiders outscored Berea 20-8 and used a 23-19 edge in rebounds to build a 19 point lead at the halfway point.

The Blue Raiders would pick up right where they left off coming out of the break as they were able to outscore the Mountaineers 26-12 in the third quarter. Maleigha Oldham led Lindsey Wilson with eight points in the quarter as the Blue Raiders used 61 percent shooting from the floor to take a commanding 62-29 lead.

Berea would outscore the Blue Raiders in the final quarter of action 9-8, but the Lindsey Wilson lead was too much to overcome as LWC cruised to a 70-38 win.

The LWC defense limited the Mountaineers to just 23 percent shooting from the floor as they made just 3-of-21 three point attempts in the game.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action on Friday when they take on Bethel (Tenn.) during the MSC/SSAC Challenge in McKenzie, Tennessee at 8pmCT.
