Rev. Luther Garvin Blakey, 94, of Jamestown, died Friday, November 2, 2018, at his home.

Funeral service for Rev. Luther Garvin Blakey will be 10amCT on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N. Main St., Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Stanley Watson officiating. Interment will follow in the Blakey Cemetery.

Visitation is requested from 5pmCT until 8pmCT on Monday, November 5, 2018, and after 8amCT on Tuesday.


He was born December 11, 1923 in Russell County to the late Lawrence & Bertie Hadley Blakey.

He was a Minister, a Veteran of US Army and a member of Jamestown Wesleyan Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Edith Stearns Blakey; a brother, Wesley Blakey; and five sisters, Enola Wheat, Noma Holt, Nona Blakey, Nadine Loy, and Exona Bloyd.

Survivors include:
  • Seven children: David F. (Vickie) Blakey of Russell Springs, Lonnie Blakey of Jamestown, Gary (Mary) Blakey of Jamestown, Dennis (Dana) Blakey of Russell Springs, Keith (Gina) Blakey of Jamestown, Jr. (Deidre) Blakey of Jamestown, and Belinda (Bill) Hoover of Jamestown
  • Thirteen grandchildren
  • Thirteen great grandchildren
  • Two sisters: Irene Knight, of Jamestown and Evelyn Phelps of Columbia
Pallbearers: Micah Blakey, Phillip Blakey, Brandon Blakey, Derek Blakey, Dancy Blakey, Scott Hoover, Jason Hoover, Barrett Blakey

Memorials suggested to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, Gideons International or Blakey Cemetery. These can be made at the funeral home.
