Poetry by Robert Stone: Variations new unknown

A sonnet for the birthday of Terri Ann Powell Haight
Sometimes we need to use another door
so we do not disturb what is outside
and trust that what may enter to explore
does not upset the choices we applied.

Inside we do the things we need and love
and love the more and need to celebrate
with thankful hearts beneath the stars above
when child observing wants to imitate.

Outside we watch the changing sameness move
unhurried through the seasons of the year
and time does not approve or disapprove
as variations new unknown appear.

When nature would exaggeration quell,
creation should imagination swell.
~ Robert Stone, 29 October 2018
