Adair family involved in opening of The Center; it was Hilda Legg's Day It was a Somerset event on June 15, but it was truly Hilda Legg's day. Chester Humphress, Knifley, wore a proud father's smile as his daughter stood in the spotlight to announce the official grand opening of The Center For Rural Development. Hilda is the Executive Director Chief Officer of The Center and was given credit by UK President Wethington as having provided the drive and the leadership to complete the project, right behind Congressman Hal Rogers. Hilda was one of only two women seated on a platform of 14 state dignitaries, up to and including Gov. Paul Patton. United States Representative Harold (Hal) Rogers brought the funding for The Center to his home community. Called "a window to the future", it is meant to be a prototype for the nation in rural economic development. In his address to the crowd of some 500 people at the ceremony, Congressman Rogers said, "The purpose of The Center is to close chasms, geographic as well as political. The tools of the next century are information, communication and cooperation. Not far in the future, not one young person will have to leave home to find their future."
