Remembering Donna Marcum Harper By Rob Collins Rob Collins in the Morning, Q 104.1 FM While attending the funeral visitation for Mrs. Donna Marcum Harper, I couldn't help thinking how much this wonderful lady would have loved seeing so many of her daughter's friends, gathering in one place. Back in the days of my youth, the kids who grew up in Columbia had an entire village of mothers and fathers to look after them. If you were out, running around the streets of Columbia or cruising up and down Jamestown Hill, you could be certain that other families were looking after you, with the same kind of care and affection that you received from your own immediate family. Everybody loved Donna and her late husband, Jimmy. We trusted them and also knew that if we were occasionally out of line, our parents would find out from a variety of other caring couples! Seeing so many people that I grew up with, was bitter sweet. We were all saddened for the loss of a this great lady, but comforted by the fact that all these years later, there is a sense of community that can't be found, except in small southern communities, like Columbia! No doubt, Lisa Harper Johnson & Jamie Harper White and their wonderful children and grandchildren experienced this kind of love, today. I can see their sweet mother smiling and taking comfort in knowing that she was an incredible success, as a great mother and loyal friend. - RC This story was posted on 2018-10-28 06:25:21
