Trabue-Russell House Luncheon A Success This article first appeared in issue 4, and was written by Linda Waggener. The May 31st salad luncheon at the Trabue-Russell House was perhaps the most successful yet, according to Bill Anderson, who along with his wife, Shirley, are credited with doing most of the work of organizing and food preparation for the event. The weather and the rose garden were perfect. The house will be open to the public from now to Labor Day. Hours Tuesday through Friday will be from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jim Blair, President of the Adair Heritage Association, says he hopes to see the number of people stopping by to tour the Trabue-Russell House double last year's volume of just under a hundred. The volunteers work hard to keep the house open and the best rewards of that work come when visitors stop in to learn about our heritage. "You can just stroll through the house," says Bill Anderson, "and read history right on the wall displays where it has been well-organized by members." He points out one new wall display, done by Vonnie Kolbenschlag, above a beautiful old glass case. The display case, donated to the Association by Wanda Hill, President of the Bank of Columbia, was used in the old Paull Drug Store on the square where Reed Brothers Insurance is now located. An old photo atop the case shows the interior of the drug store when it was in operation. And a description with the picture tells the background and family information. Steve Hancock provided the carved base and legs on which the glass display stands. Blair says that the Trabue-Russell House is available for special events for only $25. The association welcomes donations of local historical significance which are tax deductible, he adds. Call 502-384-6303, or 502-384-5716. This story was posted on 1996-06-01 12:01:01
