Digging up memories of Mr. Bud in Greater Bliss

By Miss Victoria Browning Pike
News from New Columbia/Greater Bliss

Work on the new Magic Mart continues in the Pinewood Shopping Center. It would appear they are digging to install the fuel tanks.

It's either that, or they are searching for The Sinkhole Dweller, "Bud Mullins," from my side of the road in the farming community of Greater Bliss, which is only a hop, skip, and jump from New Columbia.

The girls at the Pampered Angus Ranch and I are keeping a close eye on what comes out of the excavating. We are hoping Bud has gone on to a better place, but we will be keeping a close eye at the back door for that ole feller in the creepy long black coat and hat that once appeared when I was a very bad little girl.

Momma said, "now if you don't behave, Miss Vicky, you are going to have to go with him." Think that worked for about a week.

"Mr. Bud" is a fictitious character that Mrs. Moran created to make the neighborhood kids behave when all else failed. The two bad children in the neighborhood at the time were Maury Moran and me.

At that time there were very few homes in Greater Bliss and Greater Flatwoods. I know my buddy Ed is keeping a close eye us to make sure Bud stays in his proper place during this Halloween season.

So in honor of Ed, I retell this story he so enjoyed telling. I know you are smiling down on us. I miss you my dear friend.
