Donna Kay White, 61, Columbia, KY (1963-2024)

Donna Kay (Holmes) White of Columbia passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at T. J. Health Columbia. She was 61 years old.

Funerals services will be held at 1pmCT on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Bro. Richie Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday from 5pmCT until 8pmCT, and will continue Saturday morning until time for the service at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Another Election Training class to be held May 13

The Adair County Board of Elections will hold a make up class for the election workers who weren't able to come on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 due to severe weather.

The make up class will be held at 4:30pmCT on Monday, May 13, 2024 in the basement of the Adair County Courthouse Annex building, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY.

Kelleyville Community Church VBS starts June 2

Kelleyville Community Church will have Vacation Bible School from June 2-6, 2024, from 5:45pmCT to 8:15pmCT nightly. This year's theme is "Scuba- diving into friendship with God".

There will be classes for all ages, including adults. A small meal will be served each night starting at 5:45pmCT. Everyone is invited to attend.

There will be an Old Time Outdoor Revival at Barnett's Creek Community Church starting at 6pmCT on Wednesday evening, May 22, 2024, with Singing & Preaching continuing all week.

  • Wednesday night, May 22, 2024: Bro. Stephen Corbin
  • Thursday night, May 23, 2024: Bro. Joe Milby
  • Friday night, May 24, 2024: Bro. Jonathon Willis
  • Saturday night, May 25, 2024: Bro. Stephen Corbin
  • Sunday Morning, May 26, 2024: Service Starts at 11amCT, Pot luck lunch served at NoonCT

Beta scholarship and award won in Metcalfe

Metcalfe County High School is proud to announce senior Colton Huffman is one of the top five National Beta Scholarship winners. This year, more than 2,700 students, both nationally and internationally, applied for a National Beta scholarship. Five students received the top awards, and Huffman was awarded $6,000.

Selection of National Beta Scholarship winners is based on several factors with special emphasis on academic excellence, demonstrated leadership, commendable character, school and community service, as well as National Beta involvement.

Doris Rae Blair, Russell County, KY (1939-2024)

Doris Rae (Smith) Barnes Blair, age 84, passed away at her home in Russell Springs, Ky on May 6, 2024.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and worked many years as a seamstress at Russell Sportswear in Russell Springs. Upon its closing, she then was employed at the Stephens Pipe and Steel Company, which was housed at the former Russell Sportswear Building. She enjoyed shopping trips with her sisters and niece Beverly (Bootie) Smith, gardening with her husband Billy, and flowers, flowers, flowers.

Angela Faye Gosser, 50, Russell County, KY

Angela Faye Gosser, age 50, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Friday, May 3, 2024 at the home of her brother.

She was born on Sunday, July 01 1973, the daughter of Juanita Johnson Wilson and Phillip Wilson, who preceded her in death.

Trees down, hail and power out in northern Adair

Adair County Sheriff Josh Brockman reports that his office had calls on a few trees down in the Knifley community and a some power lines down on KY 551 through the overnight storms. Hail damage was reported on some vehicles in north eastern Adair County.

He said they may get a more calls today now that it’s daylight and people get out and check their property, but, all in all, the night was better then what was anticipated and that is a blessing.

Tennis players at ACHS enter tournament action

Adair County High School Tennis begins 2024 regional tournament today.

Tennis region tournaments are split into three different events, the first being the girls team tournament, where the top three singles players and the top two doubles teams from two schools will play and the team that wins the majority of matches will advance to the next round. The ACHS girls will play Central Hardin in Elizabethtown and on Friday the boys will travel to Campbellsville to play Taylor County in the first round of their region team tournament.

The final of the three tournaments, the individual tournament, will begin next Monday.

Grand Group to meet May 21st in Columbia

The Grand Group, grandparents (or any other family member) raising grand (children), are invited to please attend the organizational luncheon to see if there is interest in reviving this support group.

The luncheon will be held Tuesday, May 21, 11amCT, in the Chamber of Commerce, Welcome and Development Center, basement, located at 201 Burkesville Street.

Plenty of parking around back where the basement is located. If you are a Grand, we hope you can join us!
