I was driving trucks before GPS. I drove for Stephens Pipe and Steel cross-country, and also drove a tri-axle dump truck for years. I know as a truck driver, especially with an 18-wheeler, if I came up to the Square I would so appreciate GPS telling me there was a bypass.

It is unfortunate that we don't use maps anymore, because if one was looking at Rand McNally, one would recognize the Bypass and avoid the Square.

There were certain areas that DOT would actually come across the CB and warn drivers that they needed to go a different direction. And it wasn't long before the word was out. I don't know if DOT still does that? It was just a recorded message that would come over channel 19 and warn the drivers. In Cincinnati if you didn't take the bypass and you went downtown without a bill of lading it was a hefty fine for a driver and the company.
