LWC College Singers return home from Quebec

The Lindsey Wilson College Singers were honored to present concerts throughout Quebec during the Canadian Thanksgiving season, October 5-9, 2023. The trip included concerts in major cathedrals throughout the province, including Sainte-Jean-Baptiste Cathedral in Sherbrooke, Sainte Anne Cathedral in de-Beaupre, and the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Old Quebec City.

The ensemble was honored to present a formal letter from Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear wishing a happy Thanksgiving season from the Commonwealth to each location. The greeting was always read in sections. LWC's Dr. Benson Sexton would begin and then alternate with the local translator.

On Monday evening, October 16, 2023, the ensemble will perform their traditional Home Concert for the community. The program begins at 7pmCT at Columbia Baptist Church. The entire repertoire of the Quebec concerts will be included as well as a few surprises for the audience!

The Lindsey Wilson College Singers are organized on professional standards to represent the College as a performing arts ensemble. The mixed-choir performs repertoire from all eras, specializing in sacred anthem literature. The Singers tour extensively, having performed in over forty states and seven countries . In 2002, 2006, 2009, and 2018 members of the ensemble performed at Carnegie Hall.

The ensemble's touring tradition created partnerships across the United States - from Langley Air Force Base in Virginia to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California. The Lindsey Wilson College Singers were honored to present a world premiere setting of speeches for the Lincoln Bicentennial as well as collaborate on numerous projects with the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Representing Kentucky in performances commemorating the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor was the ensemble's 4th project with Music Celebrations International. In addition, members of the ensemble have participated in the Rome Choral Festival; the Paris Choral Festival, including a wreath-laying ceremony at the American Cemetery in Normandy, France; and the Mozart Choral Festival in Salzburg, Austria.

Gerald L. Chafin serves as Conductor of Choral Ensembles as well as Assistant to the President for Church Relations at Lindsey Wilson College, Columbia, KY. Dr. Chafin has participated in over 700 performances for Lindsey Wilson College.

The membership of the Lindsey Wilson College Singers spans numerous majors across the campus and the influence of the LWC Singers creates a contagious excitement; a truly winsome personality!
