Downtown Square is beginning to breathe again

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
Looking forward to the new surface on the Square and Jamestown Street. It needs it and I'm thankful for it.

Our Downtown Square is beginning to breathe again. Air flow has to be much better. Sight distance in and around the Square is greatly improved. Peripheral vision is greatly expanded now that the "blinders" have been removed and it is already a much safer place. Additionally, the Square is a more safe space due to the removal of "thru truck traffic"! I certainly hope the last sentence in this news article, "...no through traffic for trucks at this time'' was just a casual, slip of the tongue and not a harbinger of a needless return of the slow moving, traffic snarling and pedestrian threatening parade of 18-wheelers snaking onto, around, and off our Downtown Square!

Courthouse clock among wishes for restoration

2023-08-15 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
As work progresses on Adair County's historic Courthouse we often hear hopes that the clock will once again be made to work. For years now, since Carl Hutchison's day when he could climb up the inside and keep it going, the clock has only been right twice a day on each of the four sides. Many in and outside of the Adair Heritage Association have studied and tried to recruit clock masters with no luck so far. The last word is that there are parts in the clock that have to be rebuilt. Who will be the next master craftsman or woman to step up? For ideas and suggestions, please click 'comment' below and share your thoughts.
